Homeopathy is based on the principle ‘Like cures like’. In simplified words this means that drugs can produce certain symptoms and signs in a healthy individual and can cure someone with the same set of symptoms as well. Several drugs are tested or introduced into the homeopathic world on healthy human beings so that they can be used for similar symptoms in sick people. Such clinical tests are conducted by one or many supervisors following a strict protocol known as ‘Drug Provings’. These signs and symptoms are recorded in a book known as the Homeopathic Materia Medica.
Some of the recent drugs introduced to the homeopathic community and to help aid combat the challenges of newly emerging ailments are Chocolate, Scorpion, Olive, Gasoline and Plutonium. There are several others that have been tested and available at established pharmacies all over the world.
The founder of Homeopathy, Dr Samuel Hahnemann, discovered that disease is not localized but affects the whole being. A homeopath keeps this basic principle foremost in mind while treating a person. During a consultation a homeopath records all the symptoms as well as the patient’s state of mind. A lot of emphasis is given to those symptoms and behaviour that are characteristic to a particular person. All this information is then matched with the symptoms of the several remedies in the Materia Medica and then one single remedy which is the closest match is given to the patient.
