What is yoga?

Yoga is one of the six systems of Indian philosophy. The word “yoga” originates from the Sanskrit root yuj which means Union. On the spiritual plane, it means the union of the Individual Self with the Universal Self. Yoga is the union of the body, mind, emotions and intellect. Yoga disciplines us to allow our true health and well-being to flourish.

The beauty of this subject is that whilst yoga demands certain qualities of the yoga practitioner, it also gives us the tools to acquire them. Practice is all it takes………

What is Iyengar Yoga ?

At its simplest, the regular practice of Iyengar yoga will improve your physical and mental health, make you feel peaceful and well, and radically improve your ability to cope with the ups and downs of everyday life. At its deepest level, Iyengar yoga is a path that allows you to explore the vast unknown universe within yourself.

Iyengar yoga is accessible to everyone.  This system of yoga with an emphasis on precision and alignment results in physical, mental, emotional and spiritual transformation.  As a practitioner of Iyengar Yoga, you will have a powerful tool to relieve the stresses of modern-day life. The benefits of your yoga may not necessarily come in a specific order or as you assume. When we keep an open mind they can present in ways that we may never have expected.

The teaching explained

The Iyengar method of teaching offers a safe and systematic progression of yoga asanas to develop each student’s ability and skill, both within each class and from class to class. In an Iyengar Yoga class at Prana you can expect the following:
