Amit Pawar – Principal Yogacharya
A Lifelong Student of Iyengar Yoga. A Teacher of Therapeutic Practice.
Amit Pawar, Principal Yogacharya at PRANA, has dedicated more than two decades to the practice, study, and teaching of Yoga, with a strong focus on Iyengar Yoga and its therapeutic applications.
His journey began as a teenager under the guidance of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar, whose teachings have deeply influenced his approach to Yoga. His training has remained grounded in the principles of precision, alignment, awareness, discipline, and intelligent adaptation of practice.
A Deep Commitment to Yoga Therapy
Amit’s primary area of teaching at PRANA is Yoga Therapy, where his approach is centred on understanding the individual and adapting the practice to their needs.
Rather than treating Yoga as a fixed sequence of postures, he works with students to understand their physical limitations, capabilities, and individual requirements, using appropriate modifications and props to make the practice accessible and purposeful.
His experience extends across different levels of practice from beginners taking their first steps into Yoga to experienced practitioners seeking greater depth and understanding.
Rooted in the Iyengar Tradition
Amit’s association with the Iyengar tradition extends beyond his personal practice.
His experience includes involvement with medical classes at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, further strengthening his exposure to the therapeutic application of Yoga.
He has also worked with experienced Yoga practitioners and teachers, sharing his understanding of alignment, adjustments, and the principles of intelligent practice.
Yoga at PRANA
Since the inception of PRANA, Amit has played an important role in developing and teaching its Yoga programs.
His work encompasses Yoga Therapy as well as general and specialised Yoga practice, helping individuals approach Yoga according to their abilities, health requirements, and goals.
This philosophy closely reflects PRANA’s approach to Integrated Wellness – where Yoga is not viewed simply as physical exercise, but as a disciplined practice that can contribute to greater awareness, balance, and well-being.
A Teacher Shaped by Practice
For Amit, teaching is an extension of his own journey as a practitioner.
Years of dedicated practice have shaped a teaching philosophy built around:
Precision
Understanding the body and working intelligently with alignment.
Awareness
Learning to observe the body, breath, movement, and mind.
Adaptation
Using appropriate modifications and props according to individual needs.
Discipline
Developing consistency through sustained practice.
Understanding
Moving beyond simply performing a posture to understanding the purpose behind it.
Today, Amit continues to share the tradition he has spent decades studying, helping students develop a more informed, intelligent, and purposeful relationship with Yoga.
